TCP / IP Setting
TCP/IP is named from two of the most important protocols in it: the Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and the Internet Protocol (IP)


in setting up TCP / IP on simple network area. there are 2 different configure as shown this figure.


Lets starting configure :

Configure 1 :
I think this network is implementation from STAR network topology. it's just that there is a shared Internet connection.

Following this configure, TCP/IP setting must be like this :
Click Start menu >> Setting >> Control Panel >> its will be appear like this

1.      Then you do double click on Network Connection.
2.      Then double on Network Area Connection >> and will appear Network Area Connection Status >> then click properties (1)
3.      On Network Area Connection Properties >> you select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) >> then click on Properties (2)
4.      And will appear Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties (3) >> you can choose obtain to assigned automatically TCP/IP setting, or you can type manually be like this :
IP Address  192.168.1.xxx ( xxx = it's up to you but must be different one with another computer). Example : WS 1 = 192.168.1.2 , WS 2 = 192.168.1.4, WS 3 = 192.168.1.15 etc
Subnet Mask = its will automaticcaly 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = its following ADSL modem IP == generally is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254

DNS Server Address :
It’s will different between Internet provider, but you can take open public DNS like Nawala, Open DNS or Google DNS

Nawala           : Preferred DNS server = 180.131.144.144 – Alternate DNS Server = 180.131.145.145 for more Nawala detail click here >> http://www.nawala.org/
Open DNS      : Preferred DNS server = 208.67.222.222 – Alternate DNS Server = 208.67.220.220  for more Open DNS detail click here >> http://www.opendns.com/
Google DNS   : Preferred DNS server = 8.8.8.8 – Alternate DNS Server = 8.8.4.4  for more Open DNS detail click here >> http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/

5.      then click OK



Configure 2 :
In this configure we only have one internet connection but shared trougth one computer server/Internet gateway. In this metode, server computer have apowerfull control to another workstation , including bandwidth distribution (if you use some bandwidth controler software >> for more detail read older post about BANDWIDTH MANAGER)
Server Configure :
1.      Click Start menu >>  Setting >>  Control Panel >> Then you do double click on Network Connection

2.      Then you do double click on Network Connection 2 (ADSL modem).
3.      Then double on Network Area Connection >> and will appear Network Area Connection Status >> then click properties (1)
4.      On Network Area Connection Properties >> you select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) >> then click on Properties
5.      And will appear Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties >> choose use the following IP Address for manually :
IP Address >> 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask = its will automaticcaly 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = its following ADSL modem IP >> generally is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254
DNS Server Address : It’s will different between Internet provider, but you can take open public DNS like Nawala, Open DNS or Google DNS
6. for giving another computer connection, you must sharing this Local area connection


7.      then click OK
8.      for eth 0 (Local Area Network that connected to Switch HUB)
do it again step 1 = Start menu >> Setting >> Control Panel >> Network conection
double click on Network Conection (LAN that conection to Switch HUB)
then do the same thing like step 3 – 4 but have different number on step 5
IP Address >> 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask = its will automaticcaly 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = lets it blank
DNS Server Address : lets it blank

·       Work Station Configure :
Click Start menu >> Setting >> Control Panel >> double click on Network Connection.
do the same thing like step 1 – 3 but have different number on step 5
IP Address >> 192.168.0.xxx ( xxx = it's up to you but must be different one with another computer its ranged between 2 till 253)
Subnet Mask = its will automaticcaly 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway = 192.168.0.1
DNS Server Address : give it with Server IP address (192.168.1.100 and 192.168.0.1)
